Alejandro Fonseca
Production of sustainable and recyclable phosphorus flame-retardant additives

Alejandro Fonseca is an early stage researcher for C-PlaNeT, working on ESR 04, in the De Vos Group, part of the Centre for Membrane separations, Adsorption, Catalysis and Spectroscopy for Sustainable Solutions (cMACS) at KU Leuven. He focusses on new concepts for catalysis and organic synthesis. The objective of his research is the development of a sustainable method for preparing new and recyclable phosphorus based flame-retardant additives using solid catalysts to facilitate product workup.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) in 2017. He also holds a master’s degree in the same field, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where he focused on the development of potential analogues of natural pharmaceutical products.

He is most interested in the development of new synthetical methods. Outside the lab he enjoys hiking, snowboarding, playing videogames, pizza and good movies (in ascending order).
